IPL: Mumbai win toss, opt to field vs Punjab

Indian Premier League 2017

Karun Nair hasn’t been able to play a knock of substance yet for Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League 2017

In today's match, the Kings XI Punjab will be facing the mighty Mumbai Indians at the Holkar stadium in Indore.

Kings XI was made to bat first, and Amla was dropped on 3, a tough chance. Instead of Shaun Marsh, Maxwell is happy to go with Hashim Amla.

Earlier, Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited KXIP to bat first. He was the man who took Mumbai Indians home. The in-form batsman, who almost got his side over the line against Sunrisers Hyderabad, was ruled out due to sickness, making for one of the four changes Punjab went in with. The KXIP bowling is also not in great shape, so overall, they need a lot of work if they are to advance. The very next over from Malinga saw Amla punce on him taking 22 off that over and suddenly 50 runs came off two overs.

Jos Buttler and Nitish Rana's powerful hitting guided Mumbai Indians to a comfortable 8-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab on Thursday. Against Mumbai Indians he will be tested as they have attacking batsmen like Parthiv Patel, Jos Buttler, Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and the Pandya Brothers.

Unlike Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab haven't quite settled on someone particular. However, the real rampage began from the next over onwards when Buttler smashed a boundary and a six off Sandeep Sharma.

Glenn Maxwell who stayed unbeaten for the first two games started the IPL with a bang, has lost the form since Punjab played against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mohali.

It wasn't a day for the veteran bowlers either. Rana has scored 127 runs off 77 balls on the leg side while only scoring 66 runs off 60 balls on the off side.

Bowling for Mumbai, Sri Lankan veteran Lasith Malinga copped some punishment, conceeding a mammoth 58 in a wicketless four overs.

Marsh who opened Punjab's innings along with Amla scored 26 runs off 21 balls. But both the efforts fell short in front of a rampaging Mumbai Indians unit. Rana completed his third fifty in IPL 10 and also earned the Orange Cap, finishing the game with a six.

Friday's action sees Kolkata Knight Riders play host to the Gujarat Lions. The Punjab squad will be definitely looking ahead to win this match to earn points and make a place for themselves in IPL 2017.

Kings XI Punjab, who had a rather dismal season previous year, started off strong, winning both matches at home.
