Prof Who Tweeted ‘Trump Must Hang’ Takes Paid Leave Of Absence Guest Post

As Campus Reform initially reported, Dr. Lars Maischak came under fire for stating that "Justice = The execution of two Republicans for each deported immigrant" in a February tweet, after which he continued to make inflammatory statements promoting violence against Republicans generally, and Donald Trump in particular.

Professor Lars Maischak of California State University, Fresno agreed upon the leave of absence with the university, according to The Fresno Bee. Substitute faculty will be taking over his five classes, the message added. He will spend the rest of the semester conducting research off campus, Castro said in a statement.

"To save American democracy, Trump must hang. The sooner and the higher, the better." - reportedly attracted the attention of the Secret Service.

Maischak's Twitter account has since been deleted.

"With 28 followers on Twitter at the time, I never expected them to be read by anyone but a close circle of acquaintances who would know to place them in their context".

Fresno State President Joseph I. Castro told the Fresno Bee last week that federal agents were investigating Maischak for his tweets.

Far-right websites such as Breitbart News highlighted the tweet, sparking angry calls on social media for the professor to be fired.

The agreement for Maischak's leave "was reached in accordance with provisions in the collective agreement with the California Faculty Association", Castro's letter said.

Maischak has a 3.7 (out of 4.0) rating at Rate My Professors, where student can anonymously assess and comment on their college instructors.

It's not clear how much Maischak will be paid for his time away.
