Friend: Chuck Berry's 1st album in decades is 'sensational'

According to Berry's website, the "Johnny B. Goodie" singer was planning to release "Chuck", his first new album in 38 years. The St. Charles County Police Department sadly confirms the death of Charles Edward Anderson Berry Sr., better known as legendary musician Chuck Berry.

The rock icon behind timeless cuts like "Johnny B. Goode" and "Maybellene" died on March 18 at his home in the St. Louis, Mo. area, where Chuck Berry was born in 1926.

Chuck was originally announced on Berry's 90th birthday a year ago, and will be his first studio album since 1979. He was the first person inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The Berry family noted that "plans have been in place" for months and that Dualtone Records will "reveal further details and music" from the LP later this week.

Most of Chuck Berry's long-lasting classics were written in the 50s. "I played drums behind a lot of guitar players and the one thing that they all have in common is that everybody know Chuck Berry songs", Lopez recalls. The tone of the post makes it sound like the album itself could be coming any day now, but we'll know more about it pretty soon either way. One of Berry's representatives, Matt Hanks, said he didn't have any new information about the release plans for the "Chuck" album.

John Lennon said, "If you tried to give rock & roll another name, you might call it Chuck Berry". We'll miss you, Chuck.
