UFC 209 Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson preview

UFC 209: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson title fight scrapped

The bout between Khabib and Ferguson was to provide the chief support to the UFC welterweight championship bout between champion Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The two heralded mixed martial artists will be squaring off inside "The Octagon" for the second time on Saturday evening while serving as UFC 209's main event. This happens in the fight game.

The victor of this contest had been due to face Conor McGregor who has in the past questioned Nurmagomedov's endurance and longevity. He was treated at Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center and discharged, but the title bout was canceled on doctor's recommendation.

"You're fat, dude", Ferguson said. He was a minus-160 (less than 2/1) underdog against Nurmagomedov, who dominated his November fight in NY against Michael Johnson and was, for the first time, positioned to have his bout aired live on Russian television.

One of the most anticipated - and snakebitten - fights in UFC lightweight division history again was canceled.

The 28-year-old was taken to a hospital for medical complications during his weight cut, as reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN. They were scheduled to fight in 2015 and 2016, but both times the matchup fell apart because of injuries.

"And I really want you guys to still buy this pay per view because the rest of this card is (expletive) awesome". In between rounds, the Russian was engaged in a conversation with UFC president Dana White, insisting that he fight for the belt.

As stated, Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson was to be for the UFC Interim Lightweight title and was scheduled as the UFC 209 co-main event.

Ferguson (22-3) came in at 154.5 pounds during Friday's weigh-in.

Lightweight top-10 fighter Michael Johnson was willing to step in on and take the fight.
